New Traffic Route Beginning Jan. 3 for Pickens Elementary Dismissal

In an effort to improve the safety of the traffic flow on Hwy 178 during afternoon dismissal from Pickens Elementary School, a new traffic pattern has been created. The School District of Pickens County worked with the city of Pickens and the Pickens Police Department to develop the plan. Please review the information below and view the map below for more information.

Beginning Jan. 3, 2023, cars will no longer be allowed to line up on Monroe Street beyond S. Lewis Street. This will prevent vehicles from stopping on Hwy 178 (at the intersection of Monroe Street) as they wait to pick up their child(ren). All cars in the pick-up line will now be routed to approach from the north (downtown Pickens) side of S. Lewis Street (at the intersection with Jefferson Street) to wait for dismissal at 2:30 p.m. The Pickens Police Department will have an officer at the intersection of Monroe and S. Lewis to direct traffic during dismissal. All cars will be directed to park on the right side of S. Lewis Street to wait for dismissal. Citizens are asked not to block driveways. Following student pickup, cars will still be allowed to turn right when leaving Pickens Elementary to exit onto Hampton Avenue.

Parents of Pickens Elementary School students or residents of S. Lewis Street who have questions are encouraged to email donnaharden@pickens.k12.sc.us. If citizens have immediate safety concerns, please call the Pickens Police Department on the non-emergency dispatch number at 864-878-6366.
