Check Out Procedures

Students in grades 1 - 5 may check out 2 books for a period of 2 weeks.  Kindergarten students will check out 1 book for 1 week beginning in January.  All books not turned in by the due date are considered overdue.  While PES does not charge overdue fines, students will not be able to check out another book until they return the overdue book.

Teachers may check out all books, videos, magazines, professional materials, and equipment for instructional use in their classrooms.  There is no limit on the number of materials a teacher may check out.  Teachers should see the media specialist or media clerk if they would like to reserve equipment or materials for a certain period of time.

Lost/Damaged Books
Patrons will be required to pay a fee to repair any damages to books that have occurred during the check out period.  If the book is lost or damaged beyond repair, the patron will be required to pay the amount needed to replace the book.  Patrons will not be allowed to check out materials until the damaged or lost materials are paid for.

Challenged Books
If a student, parent, or faculty member feels that a particular book is not appropriate for the students at PES, the principal should be notified.  The principal will follow the district procedures for reviewing a challenged book.
